Washington Journal for Thursday, December 20

Washington, DC
Thursday, December 20, 2012

Susan Ferrechio, Washington Examiner, Chief Congressional Correspondent

Topic:  Guest will discuss latest negotiations on the so-called “fiscal cliff.”

Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY) @RepJohnYarmuth

Topic: This week, Rep. Yarmuth joined other Congressional Democrats calling for action on gun control.  In an op-ed this week, Rep. Yarmuth said he was “afraid of guns” and a “concerted national commitment” was needed to protect citizens from gun misuse.

Rep. Tim Huelskamp (R-KS) @conghuelskamp

Topic: The latest on the “fiscal cliff” negotiations and discontent among some House Republicans with the GOP House leadership.  Rep.  Huelskamp was removed from key assignments on the Agriculture and Budget committees by the House Steering Committee, which is under the control of Speaker John A. Boehner, R-Ohio.  Three other GOP Congressmen were also removed from key committees.  They say it was retribution for their voting records.

David Ingram, Reuters, Justice Department Correspondent @David_Ingram

Topic: Guest will talk about the options President Obama has to tighten gun control laws with or without Congressional action.  He’ll explain the gun violence task force President Obama announced yesterday, and he’ll review the Justice Department’s prior research into potential gun law changes.
