A wake for Robert Sargent Shriver, Jr. was held at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Washington, D.C. Shriver passed away on Tuesday at the age of 95. He was the first Director of the Peace Corps, was married to Eunice Kennedy Shriver, sister of President John F. Kennedy and ran as George McGovern's (D) vice presidential running mate in 1972.
Speakers at the wake include Minority Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), former Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT) and former Senator, and Democratic presidential nominee George McGovern.
Pallbearers at the service include his daughter Maria Shriver and her husband former California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger (R).
Shriver was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2003. His wife, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, passed away in 2009 at the age of 88.
