On his first trip to Afghanistan, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel met with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, who accused the U.S. of holding secret negotiations with the Taliban. Defense Sec. Hagel also met with U.S. soldiers  over the weekend and took questions about the impact of the sequestration on their operations in Afghanistan and their military careers.

And on Monday, five American soldiers died when a Black Hawk helicopter crashed in Kandahar Province and another two were killed by an Afghan police officer. In a separate incident, U.S. forces killed two Afghan civilians when they fired on a truck at a roadside check point.
