Speaker Boehner Talks to Building Contractors About Taxes & Jobs

Washington, DC
Tuesday, July 10, 2012

The Associated Builders & Contractors held its 2012 legislative conference in Washington, DC.  House Speaker John Boehner and Senator Rob Portman of Ohio provided keynote remarks to the conference participants. In his remarks, Speaker Boehner reacted President Obama’s middle-class tax cut proposal saying it makes no economic sense to tax the very people that we expect to create jobs in this country. Speaker Boehner also said the House plans vote at the end of the month to extend all of the current tax rates

Senator  Portman focused his remarks on changing the tax code and reducing government regulations.

Monday, the President called for the end of Bush-era tax cuts for wealthy American families, while extending the breaks by one more year for families making less than $250,000 a year.

In response, Speaker Boehner called the President's plan "quixotic" and said the tax hike would hurt job creation. The House is expected to vote this month on extending the tax cuts for all taxpayers.

Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) was founded in 1950 to promote the awarding of building contracts based on merit and not labor affiliation. ABC's 74 chapters include 22,000 construction-related firms with some two million employees.
