Senate Environment & Public Works Subcommittee Joint Hearing on Brownfields Program

A Senate Environment and Public Works subcommittee conducted a joint oversight hearing of the EPA’s Brownfields Program on Capitol Hill.  Committee and subcommittee members focused on the clean up and rebuilding efforts so far. 

Testifying before the lawmakers were a representative from the Environmental Protection Agency and local officials from Idaho and Oklahoma.  According to the EPA, Brownfields sites are contaminated with hazardous substances or other pollutants.  The EPA also estimates that there are more than 450,000 such sites across the U.S.
