Sec. Clinton Holds Briefing Following UN Security Council Meeting

 Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke to international reporters about the Arab League peace plan for Syria at the United Nations Security Council meeting in New York.

The proposal calls for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down in an effort to resolve the political crisis in Syria, which, according to the UN, has claimed more than 5,000 lives since it began a year ago.

U.N. Approves Sanctions Aimed at North Korea

The U.N. Security Council unanimously approved a fourth round of sanctions against North Korea aimed at slowing down its nuclear programs.  The resolution was drafted by the United States and China, North Korea's closest ally. The council's agreement to put the resolution to a vote just 48 hours later signaled that it would almost certainly have the support of all 15 council members.
