President Obama Addresses UAW at Washington Convention

Washington, DC
Tuesday, February 28, 2012

President Obama criticized his Republican rivals in a speech to the United Auto Workers legislative convention in Washington. Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum were not mentioned by name, but the President mentioned that Mr. Romney had once said that U.S. auto companies ought to be allowed to fall into bankruptcy. The President later said sending your kids to college is part of the American dream, a response to recent comments by Rick Santorum.

The President launched his auto bailout in 2009, rescuing General Motors and Chrysler and propping up the failing American auto industry. He will contrast his approach to the economy with Mitt Romney's, who has made a campaign issue out of the President's auto bailout.

The President's UAW speech comes as GOP voters cast their ballots in the Michigan Primary.
