On November 22nd, 1963, President John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas, propelling his vice president, Lyndon Johnson, into the presidency. American History TV has been airing oral histories from those closest to LBJ. The interviews were conducted by former LBJ speechwriters, Harry Middleton and Bob Hardesty, and are archived at the Lyndon Johnson Presidential Library. In this interview we hear from Helen Thomas, known as the “Dean of the White House Press Corps.” Ms. Thomas covered presidents from John Kennedy to Barack Obama for UPI and Hearst Newspapers.
