Palestinian leader says will seek UN membership

Washington, DC

President Obama is scheduled to address the United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday, as it opens its annual session in New York. C-SPAN will bring you the President's remarks and those of many other world leaders.

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas will reportedly ask for full UN membership when he speaks to the General Assembly on Friday.  Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will also address the UN on Friday.  Netanyahu's office issued a statement today that he is seeking to restart negotiations with Abbas: "The prime minister is interested in a meeting with the president of the Palestinian Authority in New York."

Today representatives of OneVoice, an international grassroots organization that seeks to create a dialog between Israelis and Palestinians between the ages of 18-35, hosted a discussion with young Israeli and Palestinian representatives.

The group says over 660,000 have signed up to support their efforts online.  The event is being co-hosted by the American Task Force on Palestine, Americans for Peace Now, and the Foundation for Middle East Peace.
