Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Talks About Military Cuts

Washington, DC
Friday, December 9, 2011

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey spoke with reporter David Ignatius about possible deficit-reducing budget cuts to the military and forging new international partnerships.

The failure of the bipartisan deficit reduction ‘supercommittee’ will trigger $600 billion in cuts to defense spending over a ten-year period. Today, the Atlantic Council focused its discussion with Gen. Dempsey on how the U.S. can strengthen it's international ties, in light of the upcoming budget cuts.

The General appeared today after returning from consultations in London with UK political and military leadership.
