As the Korean War broke out, Joseph Owen was a young U.S. Marine anxious to get into the fight. He worried, in fact, that the war would end before he could get there. Instead, he and his men found themselves in one of the most storied battles of Marine history. Facing overwhelming Chinese forces and sub-arctic temperatures in the Battle of Chosin Reservoir, Owen bore the responsibility of getting his green troops out alive. His story was recorded by the Korean War Veterans Digital Memorial Foundation. He begins by talking about his service during World War II.
