House GOP Leaders Discuss the Sequester

Washington, DC
Monday, February 25, 2013

House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) and other members of the House Republican leadership criticized President Obama's handling of impending automatic spending cuts, known as the sequester.

Speaker Boehner, Republican Conference Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA) and other leaders, including Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA), complained that President Obama was "campaigning for higher taxes" instead of working with Senate Democrats to pass an alternative to the sequester.

"Mr. President, you got your tax increases. Now is the time to cut spending," Speaker Boehner told reporters. "If we don't solve the spending problem in Washington, millions of American jobs will be threatened in the future."
