Homeland Security Subcmte. Examines Visa Security

The House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Border and Maritime Security holds a hearing on preventing terrorists from entering the United States. 

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) approach to visa security includes vetting visa applicants overseas and having a Customs and Border Protection Officer verify identity and reason for entry upon arrival in the U.S.

The hearing examined that process and the progress that the DHS has made in visa security and what improvements are needed.

Witnesses included: Kelli Ann Walther, deputy assistant secretary of Homeland Security for policy, Screening Coordination Office; Kevin McAleenan, acting assistant commissioner, Office of Field Operations, Customs and Border Protection, DHS; John Woods, assistant director, National Security Investigations Division, Homeland Security Investigations, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, DHS; Edward Ramotowski, deputy assistant secretary of State for consular affairs; and Charles K. Edwards, acting inspector general, DHS.
