Conference to Energize Progressives For 2012 Elections

Campaign for America's Future hosts a three-day "Take Back the American Dream Conference" beginning Monday in Washington.

Monday's program featured a series of panel discussions and focus on "The Progressive Movement" and mobilizing voters for the upcoming 2012 elections.

Van Jones, a former White House Special Adviser on Green Jobs, was one of the panelists who participated in the conversation.  

Additional participants included: Robert Borosage, Campaign for America’s Future; Van Jones, Rebuild the Dream; Melissa Harris-Perry, host of MSNBC's "Melissa Harris-Perry;" Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL); Molly Katchpole, Rebuild the Dream; Damon Silvers, AFL-CIO; and Roger Hickey, Co-Director, Campaign for America’s Future.

Defense Secretary Leon Panetta delivered a farewell address to employees at the Pentagon.  He was honored by President Obama and military leaders with an official farewell ceremony last week.  Secretary Panetta is expected to stay on the job until his pending successor, former Senator Chuck Hagel (R-NE), is confirmed.  The Senate Armed Services Committee has scheduled a confirmation vote for Tuesday afternoon.

American Artifacts: National Building Museum & Inaugural Balls

The first Inaugural Ball held in the National Building Museum was Grover Cleveland’s in 1885, when it was known as the Pension Building and was still under construction.  Composed of over 15 million red bricks, the Pension Building contains a Great Hall that is 316 feet long and 159 feet high. American History TV visited to learn about the 19th century Inaugural tradition that continues in the 21st century, including President Obama's Commander-in-Chief Ball held there in January of 2009.
